Visible Children: We got trouble.

visiblechildren:

For those asking what you can do to help, please link to visiblechildren.tumblr.com wherever you see KONY 2012 posts. And tweet a link to this page to famous people on Twitter who are talking about KONY 2012!

I do not doubt for a second that those involved in KONY 2012 have great intentions, nor…

Since Uganda is getting a lot of interest on the internet right now, I figured it was important to try to present an alternative source of information. Invisible Children is, as many already know, a highly problematic organization, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying to help. Here are some other sources of information, statistics, and ways to donate/help.

Found it! It’d be really great if you all could check this out and support groups like this rather than Invisible Children, which is popular but racially problematic and not very efficient with the use of their donations. Signal boost it!

If Invisible Children’s various campaigns got you interested, keep reading, keep learning, and keep talking.

Apparently there’s a lot of buzz around Joseph Kony and the Lords Resistance Army after the group Invisible Children Inc. put out a viral video condemning his deeds. While I’m glad that after 25 years people are finally taking notice of the atrocities in Uganda, Kony 2012 is ultimately a fundraising campaign for Invisible Children Inc, which has been criticized by both Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau for low financial transparency and accountability- that is to say that Invisible Children does not adequately report how its spending its donations. While I’m sure Invisible Children does good work, I fear that this will just turn into another liberal youth fad like the “save Darfur” movement. Why do I condemn the Save Darfur Coalition? Because none of the money it raised ever went to help those in Darfur, but rather to pay for its employees salaries and lobbying in Washington. My concern is that Invisible Children is ultimately the same kind of movement.

The Muppet Show (1976-1981) // Jim Henson

I have no patience for tweens that just discovered the Muppets.

Yeah, shame on them for not being born when you were. I mean, it’s not like most tweens were born at the beginning of the gap of Muppet programs and films and we weren’t.

Oh my god, why does everything have to be such an exclusive club on tumblr?

The Muppets are awesome and I hope more kids get into them again.

Also the movie was super adorable.

Fuck yeah, the Muppets are pretty sweet.

Why do weird tumblr people get pissed off if other people like the same things they do? Its not like the Muppets are some weird “underground” thing or something.
